Douglas MacArthur

I just took some time to review General Douglas MacArthur's last speech to the cadets at West Point in '62, "duty, honor, country." And I consider the career of this commander. He was a soldier and leader though had a problem of taking matters into his hands even if it was evidently poor choices and ignored advice which led to his downfall when he publicly disagreed with Truman that led to him being fired from the army.

I'm reminded as I have been dealing with those who defy publicly what their leaders want that even if it may not be the right answer that you still follow the chain of command. Not only in military but also as far as the Bible is concerned. Romans 13 tells us to submit to our leaders and their authority. Paul who had a personality like MacArthur understands those of you who have a strong spirit and admit as an individual did to me a little over a month ago that you don't know what to do when you aren't in charge. Those who are good leaders or are in charge are first and last and always the best followers. When you don't know what to do when you aren't in charge, follow. And submit to authority for if you do you submit yourself to God. If not submiting to authority you are not submiting to God and that is dangerous enemy soil to be on. I pray today that I'm not in the trap of submitting to my authority and being the best lowly follower I can be.
